Meet our Editor-in-Chief
Dr. Kovács Enikő
is an environmental engineer and researcher with an interdisciplinary
background in agronomy, agribusiness, environmental assessment and sustainable
resource management. She holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and Management in
Agriculture and Rural Development. Her research integrates agricultural
sciences and environmental engineering, with a focus on the sustainable use of
biological resources within circular production systems.
Her work
addresses the characterisation, processing and valorisation of agricultural and
industrial biomass, particularly plant-derived waste generated by agricultural
activities. She has contributed to research on lignocellulosic feedstocks,
microalgae and other biological resources. These activities include biomass
characterisation, green recovery of carbohydrates, production of biofuels and
bioplastics, resource recovery and the use of agricultural waste derived
materials in energy and construction applications.
The botanical
dimension of her research concerns the composition, functional properties and
utilisation potential of plant biomass. By linking plant derived resources with
processing technologies, life cycle assessment and quantitative environmental
indicators, her work evaluates how biomass valorisation pathways affect
resource efficiency, environmental performance and agricultural sustainability.
This approach supports the development of circular solutions for reducing
agricultural waste, recovering renewable resources and limiting pressures on
ecosystems and primary raw materials.
Her broader scientific interests encompass sustainable agriculture, agronomy, environmental engineering, botany, plant biomass utilisation, plant–environment interactions, biodiversity, evolutionary ecology, circular economy and life cycle assessment.
